Colonel Daniel P. Jenkins was one of our region’s greatest philanthropists. Before he moved to Spokane in 1880, Col. Jenkins was a Civil War hero, a lawyer in Ohio and an acquaintance of Abraham Lincoln. He homesteaded 157 acres on the northside of the Spokane River and built the first college in town, Spokane College, located in what is now Kendall Yards.
